Loans

MUMASK aims to promote cultural and scientific cooperation between institutions and to showcase its collections to the widest possible audience, whether local, national or international. It therefore has a loan policy for temporary exhibitions.

terms

Any cultural institution with adequate facilities to host a temporary exhibition and able to guarantee appropriate security and conservation conditions may apply for a loan.

Except in exceptional cases, MUMASK agrees to lend a maximum of 20 items per loan and a maximum of 5 complete costumes per application.

Before submitting a request, please consult the general loan conditions.
General loan conditions
Loan requests cannot concern items held at MUMASK that are classified as ‘Treasures of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation’ or belong to the collections of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and are on deposit at MUMASK. If the loan request concerns one of these works, it must be submitted directly to the Services of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in accordance with the procedure established by the latter.

How to apply for a loan?

All loan requests must be submitted at least 4 months before the exhibition opens, and no earlier than 18 months before the opening date.

All loan requests must be submitted using the following form.

The loan application form must be sent to the Collections Management, Preventive Conservation and Restoration Department by email to prets@mumask.be.

The following documents must be enclosed with the loan application form:
Facility Report: a technical sheet detailing the conditions under which the objects are to be exhibited.
Project synopsis: a brief description of the nature and purpose of the exhibition.
Terms and conditions: a signed copy of the terms and conditions of loan.

Towards sustainable and responsible practices

Committed to more sustainable and environmentally friendly museum practices, MUMASK adheres to the Bizot Green Protocol regarding humidity control and encourages the adoption of more flexible museum climate conditions rather than strict, energy-intensive standards for the conservation of loaned works.

To help reduce the environmental impact of temporary exhibitions, it also encourages requests for long-term loans (minimum 6 months) and the use of rail transport rather than road or air transport for its museum couriers.

News and important information

We are actively working on putting our collections online so that institutions can submit more precise loan requests, among other things. This should be completed in the course of 2027.

Any requests for further information about MUMASK's loan conditions should be sent by email to prets@mumask.be
