Clémence Mathieu

Holding a master’s degree in art history and archaeology (specialising in the Middle Ages/Modern Times, ULB) and an additional master's degree in the conservation of monuments and sites (Raymond Lemaire International Centre, KU Leuven), Clémence Mathieu specialised in the study of masking practices in 2014, the year she joined the museum as a scientific collaborator.

In 2017, she became the director of the MUMASK where her main challenge is to preserve and showcase intangible heritage, which is in essence living and constantly evolving. Thanks to her research, Clémence Mathieu was appointed expert in ethnology and intangible cultural heritage in 2020 for the Wallonia-Brussels Federation's Cultural heritage commission.

They are responsible for researching, studying, conserving and restoring objects, and their role is essential in preserving and showcasing the museum's collections. It is thanks to their expertise that the works are so well preserved and displayed, ensuring the longevity of our collections.

Their mission is to make the museum’s collections and exhibitions accessible to everybody by developing mediation tools which enrich the visitors’ experience. Workshops, guided visits for the visually and hearing imported, activities for schools or during holidays are organised to encourage curiosity and exchange.

The front desk is the encounter between the museum and its visitors. The front desk staff makes provide guidance and make sure that everybody feels heard. More than a simple place visitors are passing through, the reception is a place of exchange where the museum experience starts, accompanied by warmth and friendliness.

General information and reservations

The administrative department plays an important role in the proper functioning of the museum. They are responsible both for the financial management and for a good coordination of the internal agenda.

Renting of spaces
