Lakota. A Brussels adventure

28/06/26 > 10/01/27
From the Great Plains of North America to Belgium, immerse yourself in the fascinating story of an encounter between two continents.

In 1935, members of the Lakota, a Native American people, crossed the Atlantic to take part in the Brussels World’s Fair. Hired as performers, they presented their way of life and culture to visitors through plays and demonstrations.

From this unique event, around a hundred objects, as well as extensive photographic documentation, have survived intact. As true witnesses to this encounter, these items now form a unique collection.

Headdresses, jewellery, costumes, posters, photographs and everyday objects reveal in this exhibition how the collective imagination surrounding the figure of the ‘Indian’ was shaped, caught between fascination, shows and historical realities.

Discover Lakota culture, the Wild West Shows and the World’s Fair through this temporary exhibition, showing theses remarkable pieces for the last time in Belgium.
